Check the name
Write down the exact name, where you checked it, the result and the time. Resolve every amber result. Keep at least one checked backup until registration is complete.
- Record the exact business-name result.
- Resolve restricted words or other objections.
- Search relevant trade marks and similar businesses.
Check the domains
Check .com.au and .au and decide who will own them. Make sure the owner meets the Australian presence and naming rules before paying.
- Use the correct legal name and contact details.
- Prepare any proof of eligibility.
- Understand the registration period, renewals, website settings and account recovery.
Check how customers understand the name
Say the name aloud, spell it and show it to people like your intended customers. Do not claim reviews, partnerships, endorsements or rights you cannot prove.
- Confirm that customers can understand and spell it.
- Keep permission for every review or customer quote.
- Publish legal, privacy, refund and contact information before taking payment.
Recheck before you register
Run the checks again immediately before registration. An earlier result does not hold the name. Treat it as secured only when ASIC or the registrar confirms completion.
